AS/NZS 3008.1.1:2017
The cable selection standard for Australia, superseded by the 2025 edition; selectable for older designs. A cable tool reads it when the Standard is AU and the Edition is 2017. A link or save with no edition reads it too. It supplies current ratings, resistance and reactance, the derating factors for the route, and the short-circuit k factor.

Tools that read it:
Current ratings, single-core cable, three cables per circuit, cross-linked 90 °C
With the AU standard, the cable size tool reads this table for single-core cross-linked cable on a three-phase circuit. It gives the printed rating in copper or aluminium for each installation method.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 47–49. Checked 24 Sept 2026.
Tools that read it:
Current ratings, multicore cable with three or four cores, thermoplastic 75 °C
With the AU standard, the cable size tool reads this table for a thermoplastic multicore cable. It gives the printed rating in copper or aluminium for each installation method. Every AU current rating sits on a 40 °C air and 25 °C soil base.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 62–64. Checked 24 Sept 2026.
Tools that read it:
Cable size calculator, Correction factor calculator and Existing circuit check.
Current ratings, multicore cable with three or four cores, cross-linked 90 °C
With the AU standard, the cable size tool reads this table for cross-linked multicore cable. It gives the printed rating in copper or aluminium for each installation method.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 65–67. Checked 24 Sept 2026.
Tools that read it:
Grouping factors for bunched circuits, buried circuits and underground wiring enclosures
The cable size and correction factors tools read the grouping factor for the arrangement you pick when the Standard is AU and the Edition is 2017.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 79, 84–87. Checked 24 Sept 2026.
Tools that read it:
Cable size calculator, Correction factor calculator and Existing circuit check.
Grouping factors for single-core circuits on trays, ladder supports, racks and cleats in air
With the AU standard, the cable size and correction factors tools read this table for single-core circuits on a tray, a ladder, a rack or cleats. The values print the same as the New Zealand part.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 80. Checked 26 Sept 2026.
Tools that read it:
Cable size calculator, Correction factor calculator, Existing circuit check and Cable tray and ladder fill.
Grouping factors for multicore cables on trays, ladder supports, racks and cleats in air
With the AU standard, the cable size and correction factors tools read this table for multicore cables on a tray, a ladder, a rack or cleats. The values print the same as the New Zealand part.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 82. Checked 26 Sept 2026.
Tools that read it:
Cable size calculator, Correction factor calculator, Existing circuit check and Cable tray and ladder fill.
Rating factors for air and soil ambient temperature
The cable size and correction factors tools read the Australian ambient factor when the Standard is AU and the Edition is 2017. The factors sit on a 40 °C air base, so 40 °C on site applies no reduction.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 88. Checked 24 Sept 2026.
Tools that read it:
Cable size calculator, Correction factor calculator and Existing circuit check.
Rating factors for depth of laying
The cable size and correction factors tools read the burial depth factor for a buried route when the Standard is AU and the Edition is 2017.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 89. Checked 24 Sept 2026.
Tools that read it:
Cable size calculator, Correction factor calculator and Existing circuit check.
Rating factors for thermal resistivity of the soil
The cable size and correction factors tools read the soil thermal resistivity factor for a buried route when the Standard is AU and the Edition is 2017.

Tools that read it:
Cable size calculator, Correction factor calculator and Existing circuit check.
Reactance at 50 Hz and a.c. resistance at 50 Hz
The voltage drop, voltage rise, loop impedance and cable size tools read this data on the AU 2017 edition. It gives resistance and reactance. The values print the same as the New Zealand part. The loop power budget reads the conductor resistance.
