Questions
Each answer describes what this tool calculates. The result is a design aid. Verify against the current standard.
What does the EV charger tool do?
The tool reads AS/NZS 3000:2018 Clause 7.9, which applies in New Zealand only. It names the clause behind each figure. For Mode 2 in a domestic installation, it adds the 30 mA of Clause 2.6.3.3.1. Clause 7.9.1 keeps that figure in force. For Modes 3 and 4, Clause 7.9.3.3 prints the 32 A capacity for single-phase final subcircuits only.
Is this a ruling on whether my installation complies?
No. The tool is a pointer to the clause numbers and to the figures printed in them. It does not assess a design, a site or a product. A licensed electrical worker reads the clauses and decides how they apply to the work in front of them.
What does the tool report for an installation that is not domestic?
Clause 7.9.3 names domestic installations, so the tool reports none of its capacity, isolating switch or height figures for any other installation. It reads Clause 7.9.4 instead, and that clause prints a residual current device figure and nothing else.
Which residual current device figures does the tool report for Mode 3?
Those in Clause 7.9.3.3 and its Exception. The clause sets a separate Type B device at 30 mA in every live conductor, the neutral included. For Mode 3, the Exception names Type A with an RDC-DD instead. The 6 mA RDC-DD figure sits in a NOTE, not in the clause body. The tool marks it as a note.
Which edition and amendments does the tool read?
AS/NZS 3000:2018 incorporating Amendment Nos 1, 2 and 3. Clause 7.9 was last changed by Amendment 1, and the Amendment 2 and Amendment 3 change summaries do not name it. Check the current text before you rely on a figure.
