Questions

Each answer describes what this tool calculates. The result is a design aid. Verify against the current standard.

What does the test results tool do?

The tool compares the values you measured on site with the acceptance limits of AS/NZS 3000 Section 8. It checks insulation resistance, earth continuity, loop impedance and RCD trip time. Each check reports a pass or a fail. The overall verdict is a pass, a fail, or not verified.

What is the minimum insulation resistance?

Clause 8.3.6.3 gives 1 megohm at 500 V direct. A sheathed heating element is 0.01 megohm and an RCD functional earth connection is 0.05 megohm. Where surge protective or electronic equipment is present, the test voltage may be reduced to 250 V.

Which loop impedance limit does it use?

The tabulated maximum Zs from AS/NZS 3000:2018 Table 8.1 for the device type, rating and disconnection time. The tool also reports the Table 8.2 maximum Rphe and Re at 80 percent of the rated current, which are useful when testing with no load.

Why does the tool say Not verified?

A test you asked for could not be made. Table 8.1 has no row for the device rating, or no test was selected. The tool does not report a pass on a check it did not make. Change the rating, or use the loop impedance tool.
