Reads Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, AS/NZS 3000:2018 and AS/NZS 3017:2022. Tables checked 26 Sept 2026.
Try a job 6
Each job fills in example values. Replace them with your values.

- Check a low insulation readingWhether 0.5 MΩ passes on a final subcircuit.
- Check Zs on a 32 A circuitWhether 0.6 Ω passes on a 32 A C-curve circuit.
- Check a slow RCDWhether a 30 mA RCD that trips in 45 ms passes.
- Check a five-second circuitThe Zs limit for a submain with a 5 s disconnection time.
- Check earth continuity on a lighting circuitWhether 0.9 Ω passes on 1.5 mm².

About this calculator
How this is calculated
The tool compares your measured test values with the limits for the circuit. Tick the tests you did. The tool checks only those.
- Insulation resistance. The tool reads the minimum and the test voltage from AS/NZS 3000 Cl 8.3.6. It also reads the AS/NZS 3017:2022 figure from Cl 4.5.4.
- Earth continuity. It reads the limit for the earth conductor size from Table 8.2. It also reads the limit at 80 % of the rated current. AS/NZS 3017:2022 Cl 4.4.4 gives the main earth and bonding limit.
- Loop impedance. It reads the maximum Zs for the device and disconnection time from Table 8.1.
- RCD trip time. It compares your measured time with the limit for the rated residual current.
- Polarity. You confirm polarity and connections. The tool does not measure them. It points at AS/NZS 3017:2022 Cl 4.6.4.
- Verdict. The result passes only when every test you ticked passes.
Worked example
- Lighting circuit, 2.5 mm² on a 20 A B curve breaker. Insulation is 50 MΩ against a 1 MΩ minimum. Earth continuity is 0.3 Ω against a 0.9 Ω maximum. Zs is 1.2 Ω against a 2.9 Ω maximum. The verification passes.
Limits
The tool does not take your readings. It does not correct a loop reading for temperature. A pass here is not a certificate. A competent person signs the verification. Use the loop impedance calculator to predict Zs before the test.

Questions
Each answer describes what this tool calculates. The result is a design aid. Verify against the current standard.
What does the test results tool do?
The tool compares the values you measured on site with the acceptance limits of AS/NZS 3000 Section 8. It checks insulation resistance, earth continuity, loop impedance and RCD trip time. Each check reports a pass or a fail. The overall verdict is a pass, a fail, or not verified.
What is the minimum insulation resistance?
Clause 8.3.6.3 gives 1 megohm at 500 V direct. A sheathed heating element is 0.01 megohm and an RCD functional earth connection is 0.05 megohm. Where surge protective or electronic equipment is present, the test voltage may be reduced to 250 V.
Which loop impedance limit does it use?
The tabulated maximum Zs from AS/NZS 3000:2018 Table 8.1 for the device type, rating and disconnection time. The tool also reports the Table 8.2 maximum Rphe and Re at 80 percent of the rated current, which are useful when testing with no load.
Why does the tool say Not verified?
A test you asked for could not be made. Table 8.1 has no row for the device rating, or no test was selected. The tool does not report a pass on a check it did not make. Change the rating, or use the loop impedance tool.
Where does AS/NZS 3017:2022 come in?
AS/NZS 3017:2022 gives the methods for each verification test. Its insulation and main earth limits match Section 8, so the tool cites both. Its loop impedance table rounds to one decimal, so the tool keeps Table 8.1 for Zs.
