AmpSize

AS/NZS 3002:2021

The standard for electrical installations at events, shows and carnivals. AmpSize holds printed pages 1 to 21 of the 84 page standard. So it uses only the supply, RCD, underground, aerial and enclosure figures of Sections 2 and 3.

Clauses (11)

  • How a show or event site gets its supply

The show and carnival tool names the method of supply the site works to. It is normal supply under Cl 2.2.2, alternative under Cl 2.2.3, standalone under Cl 2.2.4, or supplementary under Cl 2.2.5.

  • HRC fuse base in a connection facility

The show and carnival tool reports the lowest IP rating this clause sets for an HRC fuse base. It is IP2X, rated with the fuse carrier taken out.

  • RCD protection of installation wiring

The show and carnival tool reads the 30 mA figure and the 32 A cap from this clause. It also reads the three kinds of final subcircuit the clause covers. The four exceptions and the higher shock risk test are judgement calls. The tool names the exceptions for New Zealand, names the risk test, and stops.

  • Underground installation wiring on a show site

The show and carnival tool reads the 400 mm peg trigger and the 1.0 m depth from this clause. It reads them for installation wiring only. At a shallower depth it lists the four concrete conditions of Cl 2.7.4(b)(i) as one set. Event wiring has its own clause, which AmpSize does not hold.

  • Height of aerial installation wiring

The show and carnival tool reads the 6 m height above completed ground level from this clause. It reads it for installation wiring only. The clause refers to Figure 2.1, which shows the same 6 m. The tool names the road and access way duties it does not check.

  • Spans between aerial conductor supports

The show and carnival tool does not publish the maximum spans of Table 3.1. In AmpSize's copy the columns sit out of line. So AmpSize cannot match a conductor type and size to a span. The tool says so and points the reader at the standard.

  • Connection facility enclosure

The show and carnival tool reports the lowest IP rating this clause sets for a connection facility enclosure. It is IP23 to AS 60529, with the most cables terminated that the enclosure allows. An equally protective cover also meets it.

  • Event wiring fed from a connection facility

The show and carnival tool names this clause as the supply method where a connection facility feeds event wiring.

  • Checking RCD protection before connection

The show and carnival tool reports the duty of this clause on a connection facility supply. A competent person confirms RCD protection at the socket-outlet before event wiring connects. That person also records where the overcurrent and RCD devices sit.

  • RCD protection of event wiring

The show and carnival tool reads the 30 mA figure for all event wiring from this clause, at any rating. It also reports the portable RCD route. A portable RCD, connected first in the event wiring, meets the rule where the socket-outlet has no RCD.

  • Event wiring fed from a generating system

The show and carnival tool names this clause as the supply method where a generating system feeds event wiring.

Tables (1)

  • Shows, carnivals and events, supply, RCD, wiring and enclosure figures

The show and carnival tool reads the RCD figures and exceptions for installation wiring and for event wiring. It also reads the underground peg trigger and depth, and the aerial height, for installation wiring. It reads two of the three IP ratings: the HRC fuse base and the connection facility enclosure. AmpSize leaves out the aerial span table of Cl 2.7.5.4.3.
