AS/NZS 4282:2023
The standard for the obtrusive effects of outdoor lighting. The obtrusive light tool reads its environmental zones and its limits for light at a neighbour’s window and for upward light. Its four tables are verified: two independent reads of the printed pages match every value.

Clauses (5)
Maintenance factor for obtrusive light
The obtrusive light tool works with initial lumens, a maintenance factor of 1.0, as this clause asks.
Tools that read it:
Curfew and non-curfew limits
The obtrusive light tool takes the lower curfew limits when the curfew is on, and the higher ones otherwise.
Tools that read it:
Level 1 and Level 2 intensity
The obtrusive light tool checks intensity outside the curfew at Level 1. It says that Level 2 needs a precedent from existing lighting.
Tools that read it:
Illuminance and intensity at a window
The obtrusive light tool works one point, the centre of the window, from a cosine lobe for each luminaire. It counts direct light only. A photometric calculation or a site measurement replaces the estimate.
Tools that read it:
Upward light ratio of the system
The obtrusive light tool adds the lumens above the horizontal from each row’s typed upward fraction. It divides them by the total lumens of the installation.

Environmental zones
The obtrusive light tool offers zones A0 to A4 and names each by its ambient light label here. AmpSize leaves out the descriptions; pick the zone with the relevant authority.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 14. Checked 1 Oct 2026.
Tools that read it:
Light technical parameter limits
The obtrusive light tool reads the vertical illuminance limit at a window, curfew or not, and the upward light ratio limit for the installation. It does not use the threshold increment.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 25. Checked 1 Oct 2026.
Tools that read it:
Maximum luminous intensities per luminaire
The obtrusive light tool reads the greatest intensity of one luminaire: Level 1 outside the curfew, and the curfew figure inside it. A0 outside the curfew has no figure, so the tool does not assess it.
Verified: read against the printed standard, pages 26. Checked 1 Oct 2026.
Tools that read it:
Maximum average luminance of surfaces
Encoded for reference. No AmpSize tool checks the luminance of a lit sign, facade or artwork yet.
