How this is calculated
The tool points to the New Zealand regulation that applies to a job. It reads the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010. It does not read a Standard.
- Work category. The tool reads the work type and who does it. It names the category of work, such as general prescribed electrical work (reg 6A).
- Certificate of compliance. It says whether the work needs a certificate of compliance (reg 65).
- Record of inspection. It says whether the work needs a record of inspection (reg 70).
- Timing. It gives the days to issue an electrical safety certificate after connection (reg 74C). It gives the days to send a copy of the certificate of compliance. It also gives how long to keep it (reg 74E).
- Standard. It names the Standard that reg 59 sets for this installation.
- Homeowner threshold. For a homeowner, it compares your demand per phase with the reg 57 threshold.
| Step | Table or clause | What it decides |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Reg 6A | The class of the work |
| Certificate of compliance | Reg 65 | Whether one is listed |
| Record of inspection | Reg 70 | Whether one is listed |
| Safety certificate and copy | Regs 74C and 74E | The days and the retention |
| Standard | Reg 59 | The Standard for the installation |
| Homeowner demand | Reg 57 | The threshold per phase |
Australia
Choose a state or territory. The tool does not sort the work into a class. It gives the paperwork rule from the regulator's own page: the certificate, who signs it, where it goes, the deadline, who gets a copy and how long to keep it. It also links the licence register.
Each line names the regulator page and the date AmpSize read it. A line not yet read on that page says "Confirm with your regulator". AmpSize reads these pages again every quarter.
Worked example
- New installation by a licensed person, single phase, 60 A. The tool names general prescribed electrical work. A certificate of compliance is listed and a record of inspection is not. The demand is below the 80 A per phase threshold.
- Paperwork in Victoria. The tool names the Certificate of Electrical Safety, ESVConnect and the 16 day period for prescribed work.
Limits
- The tool points at the regulation. It is not a ruling and it is not advice. Read the current reprint.
- Regs 74A and 74B say which work a safety certificate covers. The tool names the timing only.
- Reg 74E(2A) covers a small stand-alone dwelling that has no consent. It states no period for the copy.
- The work classes are New Zealand law. For Australia the tool gives the paperwork rows only.
